Research Behind Civify
Every Civify workshop is grounded in ongoing research on digital information, online discourse, and responsible AI. Our goal is to transform academic research into practical tools that help communities recognize misinformation, think critically, and navigate today’s rapidly changing digital world.
Why Research Matters
Digital literacy education should be grounded in evidence—not assumptions.
At Civify, research helps us better understand how people interact with online information, how artificial intelligence influences decision-making, and how communities can develop stronger critical thinking skills.
Rather than keeping research inside academic papers, we translate it into educational workshops, practical resources, and community outreach that make a real-world difference.
Hate Speech & Online Information Research
UCSB Summer Research Academy
During Warren’s research at the UCSB Summer Research Academy, he explored how online platforms and content moderation policies influence the quality of public discourse and digital information environments.
This experience sparked a broader interest in understanding how online information shapes public opinion and inspired the creation of community-based digital literacy education.
AI Fairness Research (Ongoing)
Warren is currently conducting independent research on AI fairness and bias in large language models through Indigo Research.
The project explores how protected attributes may influence AI-generated responses and examines fairness, transparency, and responsible AI development.
Insights from this ongoing research continue to inform Civify’s educational workshops and learning resources.
Research is currently in progress. Additional findings will be shared upon publication.
